PSYC4101 History, Systems, and Contemporary Psychology

Learners build their knowledge of the history of psychology as an academic discipline, with a joint emphasis on historical systems and current topics in Western culture. Learners consider historical schools of thought, significant psychologists, social events, and cultural influences that have shaped the development of the field as a science. Further, learners analyze the evolution of the field's ideas regarding the human mind and behavior, approaches to research, and areas of focus in a time of rapid social and technological change. Through personal and professional application, learners explore the utility of theory and psychological knowledge for future directions in the field and creating positive social change.
