SWK5807 Advanced Social Work Practice in Healthcare
Students gain an understanding of conceptual, ethical, and practical frameworks for advanced social work practice in health care. Students investigate collaborative roles and Healthcare settings through a generalist practice social work lens. Further, students develop skills needed for assessment, engagement, and intervention with patients and their families. Students also analyze integrated behavioral health and evidence-based practices. Students develop an understanding of the United States health care system, the unique knowledge and skill base of social work in health care, the biopsychosocial/spiritual impact of illness on patients and their family members/support system and the special psychosocial needs of populations served in medical social work. Students also analyze global healthcare practices. Students strengthen their understanding of illness, disease, accidents and trauma and their occurrence across all regions, races, socioeconomic statuses, cultures, genders, ages, and religious beliefs. Finally, students identify their own personal attitudes and experiences involving sickness, grief, and loss to facilitate increased self-awareness. For MSW and MSW Advanced Standing students only. Cannot be fulfilled by transfer except by coursework from a CSWE-accredited program.
